These three photos were all taken using a 5.1 megapixel Kodak CX7530 Zoom Digital Camera with the zoom lens pulled all the way back (wide angle, no telephoto). The camera was hand-held and lighting was provided by a 20 watt halogen desk lamp located about 14 inches off-camera to the upper right.
This first photo was taken with the camera picture quality (resolution) set at "GOOD". It measures 1496 pixels wide by 1122 pixels high and the file size is 149 KB. The camera mode was set to "AUTO" and the object (a "portable safe" from the 1930's) was about six inches away. In "AUTO" mode, my camera's closest autofocus distance is about 24 inches and therefore the object is out of focus.
The next photo was taken with the camera picture quality (resolution) set at "BETTER". It measures 2048 pixels wide by 1536 pixels high and the file size is 227 KB. The camera mode was set to "AUTO" and the object was about six inches away. Again, the object is still out of focus, but with the higher resolution, the output image's edges are one-third longer and the file size is half again as big.
The last photo was also taken with the camera picture quality (resolution) set at "BETTER". It measures the same 2048 pixels wide by 1536 pixels high but the 389 KB file size is slightly larger due to the finer detail. The camera mode was set to "Close-up" and the object was about six inches away. The "Close-up" setting allows the autofocus to bring the object into sharp focus.
